mā, má, mǎ, mà, ma Mandarin pinyin five tunes practice

We will keep on the Mandarin pinyin practice, and the topic this time is about  mā, má, mǎ, mà, ma Mandarin five tunes practice with some characters and related words. It's always the best way to exercise your pinyin pronunciations with all different variations together in the same time. Please watch the following video lesson carefully:

We are going to learn the Mandarin pinyin Ba this time, there are 4 basic tunes for a Chinese word (character), some have the 5th tune (light tune), mostly used as the ending tag for a sentence for question or sigh. Here are 5 tunes for the Ba pronunciation: bā, bá, bǎ, bà, ba. It's very useful if you practice all of them in the same time, to speak the standard Mandarin with the pinyin notations. thing 東西 the Chinese slang word

Dear friends,
We are going to learn this specific Chinese slang word 東西(thing, something), it contains two characters: 東(east) and 西(west), yet it doesn't relate with the directions literally. In this video lesson we also combine the word 什麼(what) to form some sentences for instance. Please watch the following video for the lesson today:

The word:

It was told that the original source of this word was from Sung Dynasty (960-1279), the city 西安 Xi'an (長安 Chang'an, great capital in ancient China), there are East market and West market in the city, people need to collect all the goods/things completely from both of the markets.

lend/borrow 借 the same Chinese word

Let's talk about the Chinese word 借(lend, borrow) in this lesson. It's the same character in Chinese yet with different meanings in English. In a Chinese sentence, whether it means "lend" or "borrow" depending on the related adverbs, subjects, and objects around this Chinese verb 借(lend, borrow), please watch the following video lesson for some examples.


The 1st phrase: (the red bottom note is Chinese pinyin)
lend money
借錢 jiè qián
借(lend) + 錢(money)

Let's extend the 1st phrase to a sentence:
I lent money to him. 我借錢給他 Wǒ jiè qián gěi tā

我(I) + 借錢(lend money) + 給(give) + 他(him)
note: the past tense and present tense is the same in Chinese grammar, so you don't need to worry about the change of Chinese verbs. That's pretty good for learning Mandarin for this part, isn't it?
the phrase in the sentence:
lend money to... 借錢給 jiè qián gěi
借(lend) + 錢(money) + 給(give)
in this example, we know this 借(lend, borrow) character is "lend...to…
